St. Joseph’s / Candler Cancer Center

The construction consisted of demolition and renovations of three Varian TrueBEAM Cancer Treatment Vaults located at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion at the Candler Campus and the Medical Pavilion at Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head Island, SC. The project also included the renovation of a gynecology oncology office on the second floor of Candler Hospital.

To upgrade the linear accelerators, the team replaced the existing machine by removing a steel base frame set in concrete. The electrical services were rerouted. Partitions were erected to separate the construction from the other functioning vaults. Negative air and other ICRA/ILSM (badging, non-smoking) requirements were implemented. The team safed off specific areas of ambulance parking for staging and coordinated with the facilities staff to ensure ambulances had regular access into the cancer centers.

There were no interruptions to normal operations of the medical facilities.
